Job Title: Innovations Engineer
Location: Sydney
Role Type: Full-Time Permanent
Work Type: Hybrid Working - 3 days in office
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $160,000 Package

About Your New Employer:
West are proud to be partnering with one of Australia's well known names to hire an Innovation Engineer with a strong background in data and innovation engineering. You'll be part of a large Data team which uses data analytics and insights for wider business. The outcome of the work in your role will influence steerco initiatives and enable the business to push for more key decisions centred around the importance and value of data.
About Your New Role:
You will be responsible for identifying, planning, designing, and implementing digital initiatives to innovate and provide insights to the wider business. You will drive improvements across all levels of the business for both internal and external clients. You will be required to stay current with industry trends in AI and emerging tech, be encouraged to develop prototypes and deliver on exciting and innovative solutions with the rest of the team. Strong SQL and Python skills, used in a commercial setting, are a must.
Key Accountabilities:
• Identify opportunities for process change or new technologies to streamline processes and improve decision making for stakeholders.
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery.
• Develop analytics tools that utilise available data to provide insights into operational efficiency and other key business metrics.
• Continuously maintaining knowledge of new and emerging technologies.
• This will include Digital technologies, Artificial intelligence, Digital Twins and advanced analytics to propose and implement business improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business problems and scope data-driven solutions.
• Query, clean, and manipulate data from various sources using SQL and Python.
• Extract insights, build visualisations, and clearly communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
• Rapidly prototype and deliver data solutions that get used— not just built.
• Stay current with industry trends in AI and emerging tech.
• Engage with spatial data (e.g., LiDAR, drone imagery) where applicable.
• Drive and support the implementation of change initiatives to create a digital-native culture.
• Establish a culture and the means for stakeholders to share best practice across the organisation and drive to implement best practice.
About You:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Data science or equivalent experience
• Masters or further education advantageous, but not essential
• Working knowledge of programming and data analytics tools - SQL, python, R and/or Azure analytics
• A strong development, analytics or software engineering background
• Demonstrable experience of working in a commercial setting in data-centric role
• Ability to work towards deliverables and wider company objectives
• Has built working solutions in data for commercial roll-out is ideal
